Top 3 Universities in Ghana Now (2020)

In the recently released Webometrics World Universities Rankings on May 12, 2020, the University of Ghana popularly known as Legon ranked 17th among the top 100 in Africa for January to June 2020 making it rank number one (1) amongst the six public universities in Ghana.

The University of Ghana, the oldest and largest of the six public universities in Ghana began in 1948 as an affiliate of the College of London and in 1961, was granted degree-awarding status by an act of parliament. With a mission to develop world-class human resources to meet global development challenges. The University offers unique courses in the arts, business, law, agriculture, physical and biological sciences, nuclear and allied sciences, and engineering sciences.

Ranking 24th amongst the top 100 universities in Africa comes the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, popularly known as TECH or KNUST making it rank second (2nd) amongst universities in Ghana.

Established in 1951, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology currently has a student population of nearly 23,000 and offers courses ranging from art, business, law, science, and technology. The university was affiliated to the University of London and in 1961, was granted full university status. In November 2019, KNUST was ranked as the best university in Ghana and West Africa by the U.S News and World Report.

Ranking 72nd, amongst the top 100 universities in Africa comes the University of Cape Coast, popularly known as UCC making it rank third and last amongst the top three universities in Ghana.

The University of Cape Coast is a public collegiate research university located in Cape Coast, Ghana. The University of Cape Coast was established in 1962 out of a dire need for highly qualified and skilled manpower in education. It was established to train graduate teachers for second cycle institutions such as teacher training colleges and technical institutions, a mission that the two existing public universities at the time were unequipped to fulfill. 

The university has since added to its functions the training of doctors and health care professionals, as well as education planners, administrators, legal professionals, and agriculturalists.
